The Adesso Guide to Beard Oil: Answering Your Commonly Asked Questions

The hair on our faces deserves as much attention as the hair on our heads. If you want your beard to thrive during quarantine then you'll need to practice patience, strategic trimming, and a regular grooming routine. You'll also need to pay close attention to how your beard is feeling—not figuratively, but literally. Is your beard soft or does it feel coarse when it rubs against your skin? A dry and brittle beard usually leads to itching and irritation which can cause the best of men to shave all their progress away.

For a smoother beard and growing experience, we suggest beard oilperhaps the most important yet overlooked part of a man's beard care routine. To explain how to use beard oil properly and all the benefits it provides, we've put together this handy-dandy guide to share our tips and answer any questions that you may have along the way.

The benefits of beard oil

The most obvious benefit of beard oil is its ability to quickly soften and hydrate your beard hair. It also pumps the parched skin under your beard with nourishing oils that an everyday moisturizer isn't able to provide. This helps prevent beard dandruff—something that affects even the most seasoned beard growers. Just because someone's beard appears healthy and shiny, it doesn't mean that flecks and flakes aren't lurking below the surface.

Beard oil also acts as a styling agent, helping to tame frizzy whiskers for softer hair that's easier to manage.

How to apply beard oil

Even though beard oil is packed with nourishing ingredients that your hair and skin crave, applying too much of it can clog your pores. Start by washing your face with warm water to help open your pores and improve the absorption of the oil. Pat your face dry but leave a bit of dampness around your beard as this will also help with absorption. Then, apply a few drops to your fingertips and warm it up between both your hands. Massage the oil into your cheeks, the underside of your jaw, and through your mustache. If your hair and skin are still feeling dry, apply one or two more drops.

Tip: Don't just target your beard when applying the oil, but rather act as if you are applying it to your face. Simply patting the oil onto your beard hairs won't help allow it to penetrate.

Lastly, comb your beard back into place. This ensures the oil has been distributed evenly and removes any tangles.

When to apply beard oil

Perhaps the most frequently asked question our customers ask us is when to apply beard oil. For maximum hydration, we suggest applying it in the morning and at night, preferably after a shower. If you're running low on time, we'll let you in on a little secret. The night application is the most crucial of the two. When we're sleeping, the oil is able to go to work it's magic without any interference.

How often should you apply beard oil?

The frequency of which you apply beard oil depends on your hair type. If your beard is on the drier side, we suggest using beard oil 4 to 6 times a week. But it all depends on your personal preference.

Does stubble need beard oil?

Absolutely! Beard oil is a must for anyone who prefers to grow out their facial hair.
