Our Top Five Faves from Vogue's FW19 Menswear Runway Report
This fashion week, oversized, leather, extreme padding, faux-fur, streetwear infused with sportswear, and a hint of prep filled the crisp Autumn air. This morning, Vogue sifted through the many collections that walked runways across Milan, Paris, and New York, and announced its favourite 23 key menswear trends of Fall/Winter 2019-2020. From casual to workwear, there are a lot of looks, patterns, and colours to choose from this season. We're keeping it simple, while still giving you an abundance of options, with our five-pick edit!
From Milan to Paris, leather has been declared one of Winter's ten fashion commandments. Vogue writer Alexandre Marain agrees, going as far to say "so long as it's matte and taken from the pelt of a bovine strong than you, it should be on your back."
While wearing full leather will indeed confirm your status as a style icon, it might not be very practical for everyday living. We recommend investing in a high-quality leather bag and wallet. Designed with quality in mind, our leather collection is as functional as it is elegant. Shop in-store or online.
The V-neck is alive and back with a vengeance. For their FW19 collections Balmain, Gucci and Lacoste took inspiration from 1950s prepsters but with an oversized, dramatic, twist. While we love this clean and polished aesthetic, not all of us have time to hit the tennis court this week. We do however suggest you take this as hint to elevate your attire with a few accessories this season. Start small with a new necktie and tie clip or treat yourself to an Adesso Man watch — think of it as an early holiday present.
3. LEOPARD PRINT
We love a bold print and are excited that leopard will be joining the ranks this season alongside snake and classic plaid. But we recommend you tread delicately with this trend as it can easily go from fashion-forward to kitsch. Start slow and experiment with statement pieces like outwear, button-ups, and loafers before fully unleashing your wild side.
According to Vogue, we should be thanking A$AP Rocky for reviving granny-esque flower prints and inspired looks. Last November, the rapper donned a floral silk scarf around his head while attending the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Eighth Annual Art + Film gala. The internet immediately broke into a frenzy, divided on whether or not A$AP was onto something. Apparently Vetements, Loewe, and Gucci think so as vintage womenswear seeped onto their FW19 menswear runway looks. We appreciate this trend for shining a spotlight on vintage + second-hand fashion since it is the most sustainable way to shop, especially when it comes to such a risky trend!
Don't have the time to find second-hand gems? Shop vintage-inspired accessories and more at our Calgary storefronts in Southcentre Mall or CF Market Mall.
5. MEN IN BLACK
Tailoring is still a huge focus going into FW19. Dior, Prada, Dolce and Gabbana, DSquared2, Versace and more hijacked the runway this season with tailored suits, crisp white shirts, and ultra-skinny ties. Think funeral-chic but without the mourning. We absolutely love this classic look but we encourage you to add your own personality to the mix! Accessorize with hints of gold detailing or one of our European-inspired neckties.
