The Art of Accessorizing: How to Pull off the Holiday Suit

From family dinners and office parties to religious celebrations and get-togethers with close friends, the holidays bring with them a deluge of festive invitations. At least one of these events will require you to dress for the occasion. No, we don't mean goofy holiday sweaters or Christmas tree-shaped hats but rather formal attire.

Now, before you roll your eyes, hear us out. We don't consider a suit to be overdressing, even if you are just hanging out with the fam jam. It's a nice gesture that shows you care about the people you are with and yourself. But there is more to wearing a suit than making sure it fits well. This handy guide will walk you through the accessories that can take your suit look to the next level. 

1. THE BRACELET STACK 

While a single bracelet adds a hint of texture and intrigue to a suit, a great stack makes for a personal, eye-catching accent. The trick is to mix the width and texture of your arm candy while keeping a consistent color scheme.

2. LAYER LAPEL PINS 

Who said you had to stop at one lapel pin? For some extra holiday flair, layer one or two (or even three) lapel pins. Just make sure each pin works with the colour scheme of the rest of our attire, which, to avoid looking too busy, should be a solid coloured suit with minimal patterns. And finally, choose lapel pins of varying styles and sizes. For example, a long stem lapel pin paired with a badge-style or metal pin. 

3. MATCH YOUR POCKET SQUARE 

Here's how: if you are wearing a patterned dress shirt or tie, pick one of the less prominent colors in the print and make it pop by adding a pocket square in a matching shade. The same can be said for a monochromatic look. For a burst of colour, choose a bold pocket square that ties in or complements your suit. 

4. LEARN TO TIE A TIE 

While going tie-less gives a suit a certain look, wearing a necktie gives you way more style options. Whether you prefer a subtle neutral pattern or a bright eye-catching print, there is one thing you must remember: a crisp and neat tie knot is non-negotiable.  

5. DON'T FORGET THE TIP CLIP 

Need we say more? A tie clip is a simple way to add more interest, texture, and personality to a suit. You can even wear a pair on your dress shirt collar.
