11 Ways to Treat Yourself on Valentine's Day

11 Ways to Treat Yourself on Valentine's Day

Ah, Valentine’s Day — an age-old tradition that dates back to the year 496. Thought to have originated from a Roman pagan festival, the holiday has grown into what some bitterly regard as a hallmark capitalist scheme to make single people feel like losers.

But flower arrangements and diamond rings aside, Valentine's Day isn't reserved for couples. Anyone can treat themselves to some much-needed self-care. Here are eleven things you can do this Valentine's Day to show yourself that you care.

A man wearing a robe is laying down on a bed. He has a face mask on with two slices of pepperoni over his eyes. A whiskey and meat platter rest next to him on a tray.

1. Pamper your skin

Nothing says I love you more than showing your body's largest organ some TLC. Spend a few extra minutes getting ready in the morning with our curated skin routine packed full of nutrients and hydrating elements.

2. Go to the movies

Yeah, we're serious. Get off the couch and take yourself to the movies. Make a night of it by inviting a few friends along and don't skimp on the buttered popcorn. This day is for you.

3. Eat and/or drink the good stuff

The least you can do is use Valentine's Day as an excuse to indulge in some quality food and drinks. Whether it's good scotch and cigars, small-batch beer and wings, or red wine and red meat. Any of these combos is well worth the risk of a hangover.

4. Catch up on your sleep

If the last thing you want to do is acknowledge Valentine's Day then why not catch up on sleep this weekend? Put on your favourite pair of sweats, turn off the TV, set your phone to vibrate, get under the covers at an absurdly early hour, and before you know it, Valentine's Day will be over.

5. Send your mom flowers

We know this idea but seem a bit...depressing, for lack of a better word but think of it this way. Remember how many heart-shaped cards you made for your mom in grade school? That's because she's the true OG of Valentine's Day, so why not remind her with a bouquet of flowers.

6. Buy yourself something nice

Single or not, buy yourself something nice this Valentine’s Day. Take the plunge and invest in whatever is on your wishlist — a new watch, a quality leather duffle bag, or Italian silk necktie. You only live once, and if we had to guess, you'll be pretty happy with your decision.

7. Invite some friends over

Whether it's to binge-watch Netflix, play board games, or order an absurd amount of pizza, there are probably a few people you know who could use some company on Valentine's Day.

8. Splurge on a hotel room

Nothing says “treat” quite like a staycation in a big hotel bed. Well, perhaps ordering room service in said big hotel bed. Treating yourself to a hotel room erases any and all responsibility you have to clean up after yourself, cook your own meals, or even put clothes on. So why not spend the night living it up, within your budget of course.

9. Go to a spa (or bring it to you)

It's time we make this clear. Facials and massages aren't just for women. This Valentine's Day, take yourself to a spa (or bring it to you) and treat yourself to a relaxing massage, cleansing facial, or a soak in the tub with Epsom salts, your favourite beverage, and perhaps a CBD product— whatever it is you need to relax and feel utterly pampered.

10. Hang out with your pet(s)

Whether you have plans with a significant other or not this Valentine's Day, everyone should spend some time pampering their furry or scaly companion. Click here for a few pet-friendly date-day ideas.

11. Get a haircut

We don't know about you, but a crisp haircut, and shave, makes us feel like new men. There's just something very therapeutic about shedding your shaggy exterior. But instead of the standard $20 cut, splurge a little. This Valentine's Day, say yes to the straight razor neck shave, the beard and mustache trim, and the hot towel. If your barbershop or salon offers a tea tree treatment, basically a rejuvenating scalp massage, we recommend adding it to the bill. It's the ultimate day to relax after a stressful day.
