How to Always Have an Outfit to Wear
With a recession on its way, how can our inner shopaholic stay stylish and well dressed, even on a tighter budget? Regardless, whether our income has drastically increased, decreased, or stayed the same, mindful shopping is a great way to live sustainably.
So, how can you be well dressed and always have something to wear?
Our answer: Capsule Wardrobe!
Why do we love capsule wardrobes so much here at Adesso?
- We always have something to wear.
- Gives us more opportunity to shop sustainably (Also, not as much!).
- We can support local businesses. If you’ve been with us for a while, you’ll know that we love supporting local businesses. So much that we even carry them in our shop! Check out some of our favourites: Devon+Lang, Manday Grooming, and more!
- Makes our favourite statement pieces POP! A simpler closet leads to a simpler life and a simpler dressing experience. But who’s to say we can’t add some fun to our closet? We love our Poplin and Co tees and capsule wardrobes work to highlight these bright and colourful pieces.
For those of you who don’t know what a capsule wardrobe is, essentially, it is a minimal closet or collection of clothing that can be used interchangeably. This means that it reduces the size of your closet but maximizes the number of outfits that can be created. What’s there not to love? The question arises: how do you create a capsule wardrobe?
Here’s some of our recommendations as a start.
1. Establish what you want
When building a capsule wardrobe, it’s important to know what you want. Aimless shopping can lead to unnecessary and wasteful purchases. A good way to know what you want is by having a board on Pinterest of outfits you like, or saving Instagram outfits to a folder. Notice what these pictures have in common and draw outfits from there.
2. Assess your current wardrobe
Now that you have an idea of what you want, it’s time to go through your closet. Building a capsule wardrobe does not mean you need to throw out or donate everything you already have, rather, use what you already have as a foundation.
Some questions to ask while going through your closet. What are pieces you’ve worn recently? Are there some you haven’t touched in the past 3 months? Or better yet, the past few years? Do you enjoy wearing cooler toned shades like black, white, and grey? Or do you gravitate to more warm tones like brown, beige, and cream?
If you’re unsure or on the edge about what to keep and what to donate or sell, a helpful read we recommend is Marie Kondo’s Spark Joy. Heavily recommend if you get the chance!
3. A Couple Other Tips
Pick up pieces in a variety of lengths and shades and stick to neutrals! For example, rather than having three amazing tees, we’d recommend picking up one longsleeve, one short sleeve, and one sleeveless! You’ll have much more variety for outfit making and you’ll thank us later that you did.
Struggling to find some basic tops? We’ve got a new drop from Milo and Dexter and carry a ton of their basic essentials. Check them out here!
And of course, quality > quantity. Flattering and well fitting pieces will create a more timeless look that will last for years to come.

4. And Remember
Capsule wardrobes aren’t built overnight! Take time to truly understand what you like, what you don’t like, and when you can, it’s always a good idea to support local businesses.
