10 Must-Know Summer Trends 2020

Warm weather in Canada is fleeting — with only a few months to make the most of the year’s biggest S/S trends. As flowing fabrics, bold patterns and shallow double-breasting make an appearance this year, the Adesso team is gearing up for a summer of style.

Read on to make the most of the season and get a jump on the must-know summer trends of 2020:

 1. Cuban-Collared Shirts

Boxy, breezy, and with a distinct collar and short sleeves, the Cuban-collared shirt is this summer’s must have button-down. Whether worn in a playful print, floral pattern or retro stripe, pair with chinos and sunglasses for an effortlessly cool look.

2. Relaxed Suiting

Summer trends for 2020 are all about nonchalant vibes, including the shallow double-breasted suit. As the name implies, the style is defined by a double-breasted design featuring a shallower wrap than usual. This aesthetic works particularly well when worn open, making it perfect for warm summer nights.

3. Sophisticated Satin

This supple, liquid-like fabric is ideal for stepping up your eveningwear game. Evoking elegance and sophistication, try incorporating satin into your wardrobe through a classic button-down or bomber jacket.

4. Pink and Orange

Say farewell to the typical pastel tones of S/S past and hello to 2020’s bright hues of coral, copper and turmeric. Working well as a coordinated set, worn together, or integrated in your neckwear, these wonderfully warm colours denote confidence and luxury.

5. Pop in Pinstripes

This classic look was once associated with serious business. However, for S/S 2020, we see a much more playful take on this sophisticated trend. Stay fashionably fresh by wearing mismatched pinstripes, and consider pairing with polka dot patterned accessories.

6. Loving Leopard

We spotted the likes of leopard, cheetah and giraffe prints rocking last season’s F/W runway, but the trend has now crossed over into S/S 2020. Pounce on this look with an animal print sweater for rainy summer days, or incorporate into your wardrobe with a silk neck scarf.

7. The Canadian Tuxedo

Dare we say it, but denim-on-denim is one of the coolest looks for summer. Dip your toe into this historic trend by pairing a chambray shirt, denim shorts and Aviators, or embrace your inner Bee Gee with a 70s-inspired wrangler jacket and matching jean.

8. Bleached and Splattered

We have already seen the resurgence of tie-dye in our social feeds, however that is not the only “homemade” trend to be featured for S/S 2020. Acid wash, bleached denim and paint-splattered prints are also in the mix. Pair acid wash jeans with a classic white V-neck t-shirt to tap into this 1980s throwback trend.

Models wearing coordinate outfits.

9. Matchy-Matchy

The coordination trend is going nowhere this summer — especially as patterns are prime for 2020. Why not experiment with bold and bright tropical patterns or a safari-esqe cargo look? Pair with statement socks and a classic pair of white sneakers.

10. Strapped-Up Sandals

Sandals are stepping-up their game for summer 2020. Featuring strappy, sporty and chunky styles on the runway, this trend is both comfortable and cool — and worn especially well with a patterned, coordinated, button-down and short set.
